Ruben Díaz

Ruben Díaz is a Spanish flamenco guitarist, incorporating influences of Latin jazz.

Díaz's father, Luis Chavarria, was a student and a disciple of Andres Segovia and when Ruben was eight he met Paco de Lucia. Díaz developed his skills and technique under Argentine classical guitarist, Manuel Lopez Ramos, and studied traditional Bachian harmony with the Mexican composer, Humberto Hernández Medrano and modern harmony with Mexican pianist, Ricardo Páez.

Díaz has performed as a soloist with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Mexico, in the opera “La Vida Breve” of Manuel de Falla and toured around the world. Díaz has performed with Paolo Fresu, Walter Caloni, Massimo Colombo and Stefano Cherri and performed with flamenco guitarist, Rafael Riqueni, in Taormina. Many of his performances with other musicians fuse together classical flamenco playing with jazz.

On March 8, 2009 he released Andalusian Flavor. He has also performed at the Toronto International Flamenco Festival. He is a member of the Guitar Foundation of America, but resides in Toronto, where he is a teacher in flamenco at the Royal Conservatory.
