Royal Free and University College Medical School Boat Club

Royal Free and University College Medical School Boat Club is the rowing club for UCL Medical School, part of the University of London. The boat club is commonly refereed to by its acronym; RUMSBC. RUMSBC row out of the University of London Boat Club boat house which is situated on the River Thames in Chiswick, London, United Kingdom. The club's official ARA registered colours are yellow and sky blue.

They have recently had a very successful year winning more UH medals than any other London medical school.

RUMSBC is a large university club with nearly 100 members forming 7 racing crews. This has been made possible due to continued sponsorship from Mayday Healthcare Plc which has made the purchase of a brand new Hudson Boatworks Predator 8 and a Coxed 4.

History

The club was formed after the amalgamation of UCH Medical School and the Royal Free Medical School Boat Clubs in 1998. The club has been rowing under various names, University College and Hospital, Middlesex and Royal Free with United Hospitals Boat Club since it was formed in 1865.

Notable Members

  • Cameron Nichol - After taking up rowing as a fresher at RUMSBC, Cameron soon moved on to the University of London Boat Club where he won his first GB vest in 2007, winning bronze in the four at the U23 World Rowing Championships, less than two years after taking up the sport. He raced in the second men's four at the 2008 Rowing World Cup in Lucerne. Cameron finished 5th in the eight at the 2007 European Rowing Championships. He has also previously represented England at the Home Countries International Regatta in 2006 where he won two gold medals, in the coxed four and the eight. He has been successful domestically too, winning the Prince Albert Challenge Cup, the student coxed fours event, at Henley Royal Regatta in 2007. He was a BUSA gold medal winner in the Championship pairs event in 2007 and won a gold medal at the National Rowing Championships in 2006 in the men's coxed fours event.

Committee

The club's activities are managed by its Committees and are governed by its By-laws. An election is held in March of each year to vote on the Committee Members. Committee meetings are held once a month to manage the club's business.
