Rotaract District Organisation, RI District 3140

Rotaract District Organisation, RI District 3140, is a body of Rotaract Clubs that exist in the city of Mumbai, and the surrounding areas of Thane and Navi Mumbai, in India.

Rotaract is a service club for young professionals and students ages 18-30. Sponsored by local Rotary clubs, Rotaract clubs provide young people with opportunities to foster leadership, responsible citizenship, and promote international peace and understanding.

The District Organisation has strength of over 120 Rotaract Clubs, of which over 70 clubs are ACTIVE. The district consists of around 2000 members who are termed “Rotaractors”, and inscribe a prefix - “Rtr.”- to their names.

About Rotaract:

The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

The goals of Rotaract are:

• To develop professional and leadership skills. • To emphasize respect for the rights of others, based on the recognition of the worth of each individual; • To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations and opportunities to serve; • To recognize, practice and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities; • To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in the community and worldwide; • To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill toward all people.

What is Rotaract District Organisation?

Rotaract District Organisation is an administrative body of Rotaract Clubs that are located in a particular geography. The geographical boundaries of the District Organisation may vary from covering several country, covering just a city, based on the number of clubs present in the area.

Geographical Boundaries of RI District 3140:

RI District 310 stretches over the entire city of Mumbai, and the neighboring areas of Thane and Navi Mumbai. Clubs from South Mumbai up to Dahanu, Badlapur and Navi Mumbai form a part of this District.

Leader of Rotaract District Organisation

A Rotaract District Organisation is led by a District Rotaract Representative (DRR). Rtr. Himanshu Kapadia is the current DRR for the year 2007-08. He will be followed by Rtr. Ravikiran Apte who will lead the District Rotaract Organisation in 2008-09.

District Council:

District Council is a body of Rotaractors formed for the purpose of administration. The council may consist of several posts, such as District Secretary, Deputy DRR, District Treasurer, District Directors, etc.

Rtr. Sanya Haryani is the current District Secretary of Rotaract District Organisation, RI District 3140, and will be followed by Rtr. Dhara Badiani for the year 2008-09.

District Structure:

The District has traditionally been divided into 6 zones for administrative purposes. Each zone consists of approximately 15 Rotaract Clubs. These zones are formed on the basis of geographical location of the clubs.

In this year, the system has been changed to form groups. Groups are based on strength of clubs instead of location of the club. This is intended to bring about uniformity amongst groups and more interaction between members of various clubs in the groups.

History:

RI 3140, rechristened from RI District 314 in1991, had its first Rotaract Club in the year 1968, in the form of Rotaract Club of Ambernath. The District boasts of a host of Rotaractors who have gone on to become eminent personalities in their field of service.

Projects:

• The District carries out various annual projects such as: • District Assembly and Conference for Rotaract Members • Rotaract Festival (R.E.D) • Aids Awareness campaigns • Polio Pulse Immunization Programme • Blood Donation Drives • Integration March (Independence Day Celebration) • Projects for Differently abled children (Tamanna) • Model Indian Parliamentary Session (MIPS) • Youth Motivational Lecture Series • Professional and Personal development of youth • Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) • Freedom Exchange Programme (Cultural Exchange)
