Rose Hathaway

Rose Hathaway, is a fictional character, in a series of books written by Richelle Mead. This series is called the Vampire Academy series, and up to now, there are a total of three books in the series. The first book, called the Vampire Academy, details the journey of a dhampir girl in her late teens and her best friend, a moroi, and their races struggles against the evil vampires, the strigoi. Rose and her best friend, Lissa, are taken back to the academy that they escaped from almost two years before. There at the academy, Lissa FACES depression, and dead animals keep appearing on her bed. Meanwhile, Rose, is attempting to catch up to her classmates on their path to become guardians. Rose, being a dhampir(Half vampire) must train to become a guardian for the moroi(good vampires) against the strigoi(evil vampires). The only moroi that she wants to protect is her princess best friend, Lissa. Lissa is the last in her line of family. There was a car accident, and her family, and Rose died, but Lissa, with her ability, brought her back unknowingly. Throughout the book, Lissa's brother, Andre, is referred to, and Lissa always is comparing herself to her brother. Her "uncle" Victor, kidnaps her and needs her to heal him. In the process, he tortures her, and through the psychic BOND they have, Rose finds her. Lissa's boyfriend, Christian, comes and dies, but Lissa revives him too. Rose is Lissa's lifeline, and best friend. For Rose, Lissa comes first. Rose is headstrong, and a smartass. She falls in love with her tutor Dimitri Belikov, even though he is seven years older than her and already an amazing and highly regarded guardian.

In the second book, Frostbite, strigoi are getting more and more frequent, so Rose's school goes to a ski lodge and her boyfriend runs away, when there are issues between the two. Rose doesn't love Mason, she loves Dimitri, but Dimitri is dating someone else, and Rose is just trying to be happy. She knows that Dimitri and she can never be together, because they are both going to be Lissa's guardians, and they have to protect her not each other. They are still in love, though. Their relationship throughout the series is deeply complicated. Mason, and others, namely Eddie, and Mia, run to find the strigoi. Rose and Christian chase after them, and they all get captured by the strigoi. Adrian, a person with the same ability as Lissa, spirit, a rare ability, tries to get through to Rose in her dreams so that she can be rescued. She ends up finding a way to escape and [...] two strigoi after they kill Mason. She is rescued and gets her two marks.

In the third book, Shadow Kiss, we open with Rose in Lissa's head, while Lissa and Christian are getting intimate. Rose always hates this. A lot. She leaves the dorm, and sneaks outside. While outside, Dimitri finds her, and takes her in, but midway, he has to go. She gets his keys and goes inside, but sees the ghost of Mason. This really freaks her out. In this book, the physical tests take place and Rose gets stuck with Christian for the tests, and she must defend him against the tests that the guardians put her through. She keeps seeing Mason, and that messes her up. Meanwhile, she finds out that Victor's trial is coming up and she and Lissa aren't going. She then pleads to go, and does. On the plane she gets really bad migraines. When they get off the trial takes place, and Victor gets put in jail forever. They go back to the academy, and weird things are going on there. Kids are getting beaten up for no reason. Later, Lissa gets kidnapped by this group that has beaten up those kids. They want her to use compulsion, but she refuses so they torture her, and Rose finds her, and then Rose loses control. Dimitri takes her to get fixed at a cabin, and they end up having [...]. Rose loses her virginity and Dimitri and her are in love. They go to rejoin the school, and strigoi got on campus, and the ghost of Mason tells Rose that. Dimitri fights some, and tells Rose to get help. She runs to get help, and the school is on lockdown. She slips into Lissa's head, and finds that Christian is out of the school buildings. She runs to find him, and they battle many strigoi. The battle ends and Rose finds Dimitri. She finds that some kids go taken away and convinces the guardians to go find the strigoi. They do, and they fight, but in the end, Dimitri doesn't come out. We find out that he is strigoi, from Mason. The book ends with Rose going off to kill the one she loves.

Rose is a complicated girl, always wants what she can't have, is sassy, loves danger. But she is compassionate. She always puts Lissa first. Always does what she has to. She breaks rules, and will fight for what she wants. She has many clever comebacks, and few people are like her. She is incredibly brave, and strong. She will face anything for Lissa. She falls in love with Dimitri, and no matter how hard she tries, she can't have anyone else, because she loves him so much. She does end up with him, but now she will have to kill him. It's really sad.
