Romantic Conceptualism

(also known as Conceptual Romanticism) is a strand of Conceptual Art which seeks to place emotion and a sense of 'the hand of the author' over the cold intellectualism of Conceptual Art. The movement is a relatively new one being embraced by young artists (the term was first identified as a movement in thought by artist Iain Woods during a week of crits at Byam Shaw School of Art, London) but which has its roots in age old ideals of romanticism. The movement draws on aspects of:

Although not officially identified as a movement on school of thought until 2007, there is coindidentally to be an exhibition of the same name at the American Federation of the Arts later this year curated by Jorg Heiser of Frieze Magazine which will aim to point towards a group of artists from the sixties until today who have an evident element of romanticism in a conceptual practice.
