Roger Nakasone

Roger Nakasone (born 22 October 1992) is a Micronesian footballer who plays for Island Pitbulls and Pohnpei State.

He played for the Federated States of Micronesia under-23 national team at the 2015 Pacific Games, where they conceded 114 goals across three matches.

Career

He played for the Island Pitbulls in the inaugural 2009 Pohnpei Premier League season, and was called up to play for the "worst national team in the world", Pohnpei State by Paul Watson for their 2010 Guam Tour. He played in matches against Rovers FC, Carpet Masters FC, an abandoned match against Guam's U19 side and Pohnpei's first ever win against Crushers FC. He would represent his home island again at the 2014 Micronesian Games, where he would score a goal in the grand final against Palau, helping his team secure the trophy.

Nakasone was called to represent Federated States of Micronesia U23 in the 2015 Pacific Games/2015 OFC Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament by Australian volunteer Stan Foster. The tournament went disastrously for Nakasone's side, with the Four Stars losing all of their games by 30 or more goals. He featured in the nation's first and second matches against Tahiti and Fiji, losing 0–30 and 0–38 respectively, and was left out of the squad for the final match, a record breaking 0–46 defeat to Vanuatu.

During the match against Tahiti, Nakasone, wearing number 10, was nicknamed "Messi" by fans.

In 2016 he formed his own team, Pink Panthers to play in the Pohnpei Premier League.
