Roel Funcken is a Dutch artist, musician, and sound designer.

Life

Roel Funcken released his solo debut, titled Vade, on the Berlin label Ad Noiseam in 2010. As a duo with his brother Don Funcken, he has released music on labels such as Djak-Up-Bitch, Schematic, Sublight Records, Neo Ouija, n5MD, and others, including as Funckarma. In 2009, the brothers started their purely digital label Funcken Industry, which housed some of their other projects and offshoots, including musicians such as Shadow Huntaz, Scone, Quench, Automotive and solo works by Roel. Although his collaboration with Don Funcken has slowly faded into the background (not counting his work with Roel and Cor Bolten as Legiac), Roel continues to release numerous recordings and remain actively involved in the community, curating music festivals, mixes, and an exclusive slot on Headphone Commute's podcast, among other things. Funcken mastered Kettel's 2008 album Myam James Part I under the pseudonym “Mr. Grid.” In 2025, Funcken played alongside Russell Haswell for Autechre as a support act at the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
