Rod Rodrigo
Rod Rodrigo (aka Niranjan Prasanna Rodrigo) b 5 August 1969 Singer, songwriter, musician, tv/dvd producer, director
Born in Sri Lanka, Rod moved to Malawi with his parents in 1975. At 5 years old, he could already play the piano and continued his adventure into music there. His education took him to UK where he won or runnered up several infamous talent shows in the 1980s culminating in the release of his first album with long time friend Don Percival under the name "This Way Up". The album was an immediate hit in Southern Africa and Asia picking up several single chart hits including the title track "Read My Eyes".
Rod's first job after leaving college was to be the Entertainment Manager of a private beach resort in West Africa where he entertained audiences on the tourist circuits. He released his second album "Treasure" in the mid nineties. "Dare To Dream" and "The Other Side Of Time" followed shortly thereafter amassing over 10 number 1 hits in Sri Lanka where Rod moved to in 1994.
Rod started his venture into the world of TV and DVD in 1996 after moving to the UK when terrorists struck too close to home in Colombo Sri Lanka. He gigged around Buckinghamshire whilst working as a producer for Sony ATV and then for IMC Vision, a UK producer. During this time he managed to release several other singles as well as his 2003 album "Demons To Fight" which once again spawned several number 1 hits in Sri Lanka.
In 2008 he signed up to UK distributor AWAL and he released "Demons To Fight" on iTunes which has been received with critical acclaim. The songs "Rainbow In Her Heart" and "Lessons From Legacies" earning awards from the Aids Foundation UK and the World Humanitarian Fund.
Rod continues to write music from the heart and he released "Revert To Type" on 1st Feb 2010 which is reworking several of his chart hits as well as including brand new tracks.
Rod lives in a small village in Buckinghamshire with his wife Miranda, daughter Emily and son Oliver.
