History and Goals

Rockville Montgomery Swim Club, also referred to as RMSC, has been running since 1968 after being founded by Bill Ballough and Jim Williams. This is a team for competitive swimmers who compete against other teams in USA Swimming, which goes across the nation and includes travel meets depending on what meets you qualify for. This team has provided gold-medalists in the Olympics and many collegiate swimmers. There are different groups at each site which are determined by age, speed, and commitment to the sport. It is also part of Potomac Valley Swimming, PVS, located in the Washington Metropolitan Area which contains roughly 40 different club teams. RMSC contains five different sites located at the Rockville Municipal Swim Center, the Germantown Indoor Swim Center, the Olney Indoor Swim Center, then Martin Luther King Jr. Swim Center, and the Montgomery Aquatic Center. All these sites are located in Montgomery County, Maryland. This team includes 62 coaches and 1391 swimmers in total and is still adding to the mix. Most swimmers start with Montgomery County Swim League, an organization for summer teams, and the ProgresS to RMSC which is an all year around swim team with more intense practices so that swimmers can really focus on speed and stroke. This team has been helping competitive swimmers strive to become better or even part of the National Team.

Competition Curl-Burke

One of RMSC’s biggest competitors is Curl-Burke, aka CUBU and founded by Rick Curl. It was started a decade after RMSC, creating a harder decision for swimmers of which team to join. CUBU is also a very big club with more than 1200 members making both teams very competitive. CUBU also has seven different practice sites but originated in Damascus. The close distance between these teams cause a good rivalry to encourage swimmers to swim faster. These two teams come together at championship meets including Tom Dolan Invitational and Junior Olympics. CUBU is also part of PVS and have many quick swimmers. Both teams and coaches are very well respected and keep producing very successful swimmers.
