Robert Animikii Horton

Robert Animikii Horton is an Anishinaabe sociologist, social and political activist, spoken-word poet, and international orator on matters such as activism, social/political/economic justice, indigenous issues, community organizing, and youth empowerment.

Horton ("Bebaamweyaazh") is a member of Rainy River First Nations of Manitou Rapids in the Treaty 3 region of Ontario and from the Anishinaabe Marten Clan. He has served as a keynote speaker alongside Ontario's Grand Chiefs at the 2009 Chiefs of Ontario Leadership Summit, at the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers summit with Into the West actor Nathaniel Arcand, as well as co-keynoting with Cree actor Gordon Tootoosis in 2008.

Horton was named a Recipient of the 2008 NAHO National Aboriginal Role Model Award by Canada's Governor General Michaelle Jean, the Assembly of First Nations "Heroes of our Time" award and recognition, and the 2008 Northwestern Ontario Aboriginal Student Award presented by North of 60 actor DAKOTA House.

Horton was greatly influenced by the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone and the late civil rights activist/senator Robert F. Kennedy.

He is a lifetime inducted member to Alpha Kappa Delta, International Honors Society for Sociologists.
