Rhys Hopkin
Rhys "Lad" Hopkin (born 1988) is an English politician and former rugby player for the Newcastle Falcons (2006–2008), where he gained the nickname "Lad" for his notorious off-field activities.
New career
After sustaining an injury to his groin in 2008, he had to retire from the sport, and instead chose to develop his political career. A keen member of the Liberal Democrats since his youth, he was selected to be that party's candidate for the Durham mayoral elections and was elected Mayor of Durham in 2009, with 41.3% of the votes cast, despite an affair with Ulrika Jonsson that threatened to derail his campaign. Unfortunately for him, his younger brother's entry into the political scene has somewhat overshadowed his mayoral election. Gethin was recently elected labour MP for Wells deposing the notoriously corrupt Heathcote-Amory. He currently lives in Durham in a eight-bedroom mansion which was allegedly built with public funds. The charges are currently under investigation.
