Revi Sterling
Revi Sterling, also known as Sarah Revi Sterling, is an American advocate for digital inclusion in both domestic and international contexts. She founded and directed the first ICT for Development graduate program in the United States at the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado, where she held joint appointments in Telecom Engineering, Computer Science, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
Personal life and education
Revi is interested in rural connectivity, community readiness for technology, and digital equity.She has a Bachelor's in creative writing/critical theory from the University of Montana. Revi's ATLAS PhD research focused on ICTD, and after graduation she started the first ICTD practitioner master's program at CU Boulder's ATLAS Institute.
Career
She served as the Duty Director of Digital Impact Hub at CARE before becoming the Director. She was the technical director for the Women in the Digital Economy Fund (WiDEF). She developed and ran the USAID WomenConnect Challenge, Women and the Web program, and the larger USAID Global Broadband and Innovations portfolio.Before joining the WomenConnect Challenge, Revi was the Chief of Party at NetHope where she directed the Women and the Web Alliance, a private public partnership with USAID, Intel, NetHope, World Vision, World Pulse, and UN Women.She previously worked on the ICT4D/Emerging Markets team at Microsoft Research, focusing on advancing women’s use of technology. She was the Senior Technical Director of Digital Inclusion at CARE and an Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in the U.S.
