Retroactive Conn Smythe
The retroactive Conn Smythe list is a list of probable winners of the Conn Smythe Trophy for each of the years it was not officially awarded - from 1917-18 to 1963-64. The list was created by a group of hockey historians based in Ontario and is promoted on the Hockey Hall of Fame website.
The list was created with great effort. As there is no video footage of hockey at the time, the members of the group scoured newspaper microfilm and stat sheets for anecdotes and quotes AbOUT each postseason.
The multiple winners include Ted Kennedy (3), Jack Darragh (2), Terry Sawchuk (2), and Maurice Richard (2).
