Reformed Church of Canberra
The Reformed Church of Canberra is a member of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia, and is the only member situated in the Australian Capital Territory.
History
The church was instituted March 26, 1975, and a chapel and manse constructed at Rivett Place in Rivett (ACT).
The church has had a succession of full-time pastors:
- Hans Boer (1967 – 1969).
- Gerald Hanscamp (1969 – 1973).
- Don Baird (1974 – 1982).
- Barry James (1982 - 1990).
- Bill Bosker (1990 - 1995).
- John de Hoog (1997 - 2006).
- Peter Gadsby (2007+).
Activities
Many of the church’s activities are centred around the chapel. The most obvious exception is the morning service, which is at the Duffy School on Burrinjuck Crescent Duffy (ACT). Normally this is at 10:30am, but, during December and January, it is at 9:30am.
These activities include:
- Bible Studies.
- Boys Brigade.
- Calvinettes.
- Catechism Classes.
- Coffee-n-Craft.
- Enquirer Classes.
- Evening Services.
- Holiday Club.
- Morning Services.
- Play Group.
- Prayer Meeting.
- Senior Youth Group.
- Sunday School.
The church supports several parachurch groups including:
- Covenant College, Gordon (ACT).
- Middle East Reformed Fellowship, Larnaca (Cyprus).
- Reformed Theological College, Geelong (Vic).
- Knox Theological College, Mbale (Uganda).
