Reflecmedia
Established in 2002, Reflecmedia has released a range of chroma key products give improved flexibility for chroma key production.
Chromatte
Chromatte is a fabric developed specifically for use as a background for chroma key production. Unlike conventional chroma key fabrics that are usually green or blue in colour, Chromatte is grey to the eye in ambient light. Chromatte contains millions of tiny glass beads that behave like ‘cats eyes’ on a road - in that they return any light directly shone on them back to its source. When the directional light from a LiteRing hits the fabric, it’s returned back along the same path into the camera lens – as such the camera sees the grey fabric as a perfectly even blue or green background. Typically, to light conventional chroma key fabric takes 1,000 watts of light for every square metre or square yard of backdrop – whereas the only light Chromatte requires to generate a perfect key comes from a LiteRing. The amount of lighting needed for traditional fabric requires significant space and generates a large quantity of heat – what’s more this intensity of light often creates a residual glow behind the person or the object being keyed, this is referred to as spill. This spill that lights the rear of the subject can be difficult to remove, as of course are any shadows created by the person or the object.
ChromaFlex
ChromaFlex utilises the Chromatte material to form a collapsible and thus, portable chroma key screen. ChromaFlex received an award for ‘Best News Gathering Product’ at the 2002 News International trade show.
LiteRing
The LiteRing uses coloured LED’s whose gaseous characteristics offer many improvements over conventional light sources. LED’s provide a light source that retains the same colour temperature whatever the level of luminosity which ensures an even distribution of ‘coloured’ light across the background.
