Redford Township Library

Redford Township Library is located in Redford, Michigan at 25320 West Six Mile. The newly renovated library has been serving the community since August 23, 2004.
History
The library service began in the 1920s, with the bookmobile providing service to the citizens of Redford Township. The first library board was appointed in 1945 with the effort of the community. The library was housed in the fire station until 1949. It was then moved to Five Mile and Beech Daly, but later relocated to a larger building across from the township offices. On May 20, 1962 the Redford Township Library was dedicated for the first time. With local funding additions were made to the library in 1966. There weren't any more additions made until 1992 when a "user friendly library" was established with the help of grants. In May 1994 the library became a district library, the hours and service provided was expanded to benefit the community.
Today
The new district library began looking for a new place for construction. The Presbyterian Village of Redford offered 2.5 acres of free land. An 8.5 million dollar bond was needed to finance the new building. The current library is 65,000 square feet, serving more than 7,300 people during opening week. On September 19, 2001 the library was dedicated to the citizens of Redford that helped with the funding for operations of the new building. The new library is equipped with all flat screen computers and wireless internet. It also has an express check out to cut down on waiting lines.
