Red & Blue Foundation

The Red & Blue Foundation is Suffolk Construction’s fundraising and charitable organization headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The Foundation was launched by Suffolk Construction Company and its Chairman & CEO John Fish in 2006.

Mission

The Red & Blue Foundation’s mission is to make a difference in local neighborhoods by positively impacting underprivileged and underserved children, particularly through educational programs. It fulfills its mission through raising funds, building business partnerships, providing resources and expertise, and launching formal volunteer efforts that improve local educational programs and institutions.

Achievements

Camp Harborview

Suffolk’s Red & Blue Foundation partnered with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Boys and Girls Club of Boston and philanthropist Jack Connors on the construction of Camp Harbor View’s summer camp for underprivileged children on Long Island in Boston Harbor.

Over 600 children ages 11 to 14 who live in Boston’s at-risk neighborhoods are offered the opportunity to leave the city during the day and participate in a four-week summer camp program. The camp offers traditional activities such as hiking, arts and crafts, swimming, and also includes programs that strive to build children’s confidence and leadership strengths.

Museum of Science

Through its Red & Blue Foundation, Suffolk Construction donated its construction expertise to Boston’s Museum of Science for a comprehensive physical and technological renovation of the Charles Hayden Planetarium. Plant updates will allow the Museum to broaden their programmatic offerings and appeal to an ever-growing audience.

Archdiocese 2010 Initiative

Suffolk Chairman & CEO John Fish served as President of the Archdiocese 2010 Initiative, which focused on improving the Boston Archdiocese’s Catholic school system. John and the Red & Blue team have played integral roles in restructuring the local Catholic school system, which was suffering from decreased enrollment, outdated technology, and buildings in need of renovation. The Red & Blue Foundation assisted the Archdiocese by working with local colleges to improve curriculum, developing marketing materials and strategies to help the Archdiocese drive enrollment, and serving as construction manager for the renovation of school facilities. Suffolk renovated buildings in Dorchester and Brockton, Massachusetts.

Boston Scholar Athlete Program

In the summer of 2009, the Red & Blue Foundation announced the launch of the Boston Scholar Athlete Program, which is a multimillion-dollar charitable program designed to support academic achievement through athletics in the Boston Public Schools. Fostering a platform that encourages participation from professional sports teams, colleges and universities, and corporations, the Program is committed to enhancing opportunities for Boston public school scholar athletes. The goal of the Program is to foster individual student athlete growth through mentoring, tutoring, coaching and conditioning. As part of this Program, the Red & Blue Foundation is offering increased funding, tutoring programs, scholarship opportunities, equipment upgrades and training opportunities for students across the City of Boston. The Foundation is also raising money and organizing clinics to improve coaching and increase participation in Boston’s public school sports.
