Reading mastery

Reading Mastery Signature EDition – a comprehensive solution that is flexible enough to serve as an intervention program or a core curriculum in Grades PreK–5 – is now available from SRA/McGraw-Hill. The latest edition of this popular Direct Instruction program combines reading, language arts, and literature instruction together in an effective manner.

SRA’s Reading Mastery Signature Edition is a research-based, field-tested program. Activities clearly reflect stated goals and objectives, and the skills are clearly linked within as well as across each of the following strands:

• The Reading Strand addresses all five essential components of reading as identified by the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics and word analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. It also provides instruction in spelling to help students better apply word analysis skills as they read and write.

• The Oral Language/Language Arts Strand teaches the oral language stills necessary to understand what is spoken, written, and read in the classroom. It helps students to communicate ideas and information effectively while it develops students’ ability to use writing strategies successfully.

• The Literature Strand supports the Reading Strand with a wide variety of literacy forms and text structures. It provides multiple opportunities for students to work with important words and for each student to read independently at his or her own level.
