RCD Technology
RCD Technology is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solution provider. Founded in 2001 RCD Technology provides RFID solutions to businesses and governments to help them overcome problems associated with tracking, security and authentication. RCD Technology is developing and manufacturing high performance RFID tags that are tailored to specific applications.
History
Founding
RCD Technology was founded by Sandra Garby and Bob Oberle, as an inlay design and manufacturing company that operated out of Lehigh University, and worked there as a two person firm on customer projects for several years. The company was founded to exploit a unique technology, invented by Bob, which provided significant advantages in the manufacture of RFID antennae. In 2002 – 2006 RCD commercialized its patented antenna material and inlay assembly processes. During that same time RCD Technology received its first major venture capital investment and moved to its present location in Quakertown. In 2006, RCD Technology introduced UHF wristband for Emergency Evacuation. In 2007 RCD Technology introduced RCD Secure which is a tamper evident feature rendering a tag useless if tampered with or damaged,in that same year the company secured ISO9001:2000 certificate for Quakertown manufacturing facility. In 2009 the company introduced Sentry-M, the first in a family of asset tracking tags for metal IT assets. That same year RCD Technology, in partnership with a major supplier for IT equipment developed the only commercially available worldwide mount on metal asset tracking tag to meet the FSTC requirements for 860-960 MHz frequency band.
Services
Tag Design and Manufacture: RCD provides customers with design of RFID tags that optimize unique RFID applications. Among the challenges RCD.
Site Surveys: RCD helps customers with reader antenna design, antenna set-up and positioning and tag and system testing.
Testing Services: RCD Technology provides testing for use that can quantify the performance of the tag. RCD provides quantitative data on the read range, and directionality of a tag.
Products
RCD Technology has manufactured RFID products for a wide range of application, each product is designed to solve specific problems.
Sentry Asset Tags: Sentry Family of UHF asset tracking tags has been designed to track and identify IT Assets. All of the products in this family of tags conform to the FSTC performance guidelines for Data Center Asset Tracking. Tags in this family are designed to withstand temperatures of -58oF to +158oF.
:Sentry – M and Sentry – M Slim tags that are intended for attachment directly to metal assets, such as blade servers, racks and provide the longest read distance for metal assets.
:Sentry tag is an all-surface tag for environments with a mixture of surfaces and provides medium read range.
- In 2009 RCD released Sentry - M WW, the newest addition to its Sentry family of asset tracking tags. The Sentry –M WW is a mount–on–metal asset tag that is functional across the worldwide UHF frequency band of 860 – 960 MHz.
RCD Secure Windshield tag is the used to optimize automotive asset management. The RCD Secure Antenna self-destructs and renders the tag useless if tampered with or removed.
The Sentry –M WW is a mount–on–metal asset tag that is functional across the worldwide UHF frequency band of 860 – 960 MHz.
Atlas Cargo Tag is claimed to provide read distance of up to 100’ in a durable, weather –resistant package. Engineered for use on metal surfaces, the Atlas is designed with industrial environments in mind and will allegedly withstand repeated exposure to vibration, weather elements, salt sprays and other harsh conditions. This is tag is primarily used for long range vehicle, rail or trailer locating applications.
ISO15693 HF Label is an extremely small (13mm x 13mm) form factor label for any close range application, where size is a critical feature. Manufactured with the NXP I-CODE SLI-S interrogated circuit, it features 2K memory for additional data requirements. This HF Label is used for many Medical applications such as tissue and blood sample tracking.
UHF wristband was developed in partnership with RadiantRFID to provide high read reliability for emergency applications, RCD’s UHF wristband contains 4 IC’s in association with a printed barcode. It has more than 99% read rates upon walking though a portal at a normal pace. The wristband has an extended wear-life of weeks. The UHF wristband has been used in emergency evacuations, including Hurricane Ike and Gustav.
