Raymond Transportation

Raymond Transportation is a bus company in Southern Luzon was now currently serving Laguna, Quezon Camarines Sur, Albay, Masbate, & Sorsogon.

History

RAYMOND TRANSPORTATION, now with a total fleet of a little over a hundred buses, had its humble beginnings sometime in 1972, when Mr. Silvino “Bino” Escobar, together with six (6) other drivers, formed the nucleus of a group which later evolved to comprise the Lito Transportation. Long before the construction and renovation of what is now known as the Maharlika Highway, Lito Transportation pioneered tran sportation of passengers and freight on the Lucena City – Calauag, Quezon route. Road conditions were then not very favorable: summer brought dust, while rainy season was characterized by slippery and muddy roads. Each bus crew of Lito Transportation – one driver-mechanic and another conductor-helper – existed virtually independent of each other.

As a driver-mechanic, Mr. Silvino Escobar learned the rudiments of the trade, so to speak, as he exercised complete discretion over his unit such as, but not limited to, trip schedules, unit maintenance and servicing, purchase and replacement of spare parts. This experience using “assembled” mini-bus units brought out the best in Mr. Escobar. Together with the moral and emotional support of his wife –Yolanda Marca-Escobar and their three (3) children, Mr. Escobar ventured on his own, using the trade name “RAYMOND TRANSPORTATION”. In 1984, the Escobars bought a second-hand passenger jeepney andoperated on the Calauag, Quezon – Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte route. This initial and independent foray into the transportation business performed beyond their wildest expectations. Barely a year later, in August 3, 1985, they were able to acquire a reconditioned Isuzu mini-bus which plied the Lucena City – Calauag, Quezon route. A third unit another reconditioned mini-bus – was added to the rapidly-growing fleet in November of the same year. October 1986 brought another reconditioned Hino mini-bus, bringing the total mini-bus fleet to three (3) units.

Having weathered its birth pains, RAYMOND TRANSPORTATION expanded its area of operation and extended its route to Sampaloc, Manila. This business expansion resulted to greater gains to the Company, as it acquired three (3) more units in 1989. Another three (3) units were added in 1990, and two (2) other units came into the picture in 1991, thus bringing the total fleet to eleven (11) units. By this time, RAYMOND TRANSPORTATION has become a by-word in the transport industry in Quezon. With a combined passenger- load capacity of five hundred fifty seven (557), RAYMOND was destined for bigger things in the future. As amended, the Company’s initial franchise has been extended up to Naga City, the heart of the Bicolandia. September 21, 1992 marked the award of the Company’s maiden inter-regional franchise by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Case No. 90-3027 authorized the Company to operate on the Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte – Sampaloc, Manila route, with the use of ten (10) units. Another milestone was achieved by the Company on February 14, 1994, when the LTFRB granted another franchise in Case No. 93-9307 on theSampaloc, Manila – Infanta, Quezon route, with the use of three (3) units. The imposition of the LTFRB on the moratorium on applications for bus franchises entering Metro Manila somehow stymied the meteoric rise of the Company. An opportunity came in 1997, when the LTFRB opened for franchise applications the FTI Terminal – Ragay, Camarines Sur route. In its effort to pioneer transport service on the newly-opened Quirino Highway, 1998, with the use of ten (10) units.

The Company, a pioneer in the operations in Ragay, leased a garage along Quirino Highway to provide maintenance services to its units. History would later point out to thisRAYMOND TRANSPORTATION applied for a franchise in Case No. 97-2002, which was granted on April 28, franchise as the lodestar in the expansion of the operation of the Company’s expansion of its operations into the Bicol Region. The said franchise has been extended on both ends, now servicing passengers in the heart of Cubao, Quezon City. The decision to expand operations into the Bicol Region proved to be a sound business venture. Its clientele ever growing, the Company had no recourse but to apply for additional franchises.

To serve the growing transport need of Naga City-bound passengers, the Company applied for and was granted a franchise (Case No. 98-0655) on the Naga City – Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte via Daet route, trekking the Maharlika Highway in August 1998. The said franchise was later made inter-regional, and further extended to serve the tourism needs of Caramoan – Cubao, Quezon City, under Case No. 2000-7464.
