Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers
Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers is an upcoming science fiction film to be written and directed by Kevin Smith. Smith plans to release the film in 2008.
Announcement
After years of hinting at "having a science-fiction idea in me," on August 13, 2003, Smith confirmed that his sci-fi idea had a name and a premise. He first described the film as "my stab at a comicbook/sci-fi movie. It's in the vein of Flash Gordon, something I've noodled with a couple of years. Now I feel we are mature enough filmmakers to tackle it." 1
Post-Announcement
Since then, Smith hasn't stated much AbOUT the project, as he has been hard at work with Clerks II. Some IDeaS he has kicked around involved using Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios lot in Austin, Texas to shoot the film 2 and confirmation that he will have a role for his longtime co-star/friend Jason Mewes in Ranger Danger 3. He has gone on the record as calling the project "in a sense Jay and Silent Bob in Space." Although the film will not feature either character, it is to be assumed that it will have a certain level of camp.
In a mid-February 2006 online Q&A session Smith announced that Ranger Danger will not be his next film. Citing he is "still one away from tackling that" and is planning a non-Askewniverse comedy to follow Clerks II. However, with Smith's currently Untitled Horror Film apparently taking the spot as the next movie he will do, it is unknown of RangerDanger will be the second of third film planned for Smith.
He also commented that he had some ideas as to whom to cast in Ranger Danger, but would not give names. 4
