Rancid's seventh studio album
Rancid's seventh studio album is currently untitled and scheduled to be released sometime in 2008.
Rancid have spent nearly three years in and out of the studio writing and recording their follow-up to 2003's Indestructible, making it the longest time the band has ever spent working on an album. Its release has been delayed numerous times since the announcement in November 2005, stating that they had started work On It. The New album was originally due for release sometime in 2006, then spring 2007, summer/fall 2007 and now simply 2008. Because of the delays, all members of the band had been busy supporting their own projects since the 2004 hiatus.
The follow-up to Indestructible will also be the band's first album recorded with drummer Branden Steineckert (of The Used), who is the replacement of original member Brett Reed. This would be the first time Rancid had not recorded an album with the "classic" line-up since their 1993 self-titled debut.
Background information
After a break in 2004, Rancid began writing their follow-up to Indestructible a year later. In November 2005, it was announced that the band had begun working on a "large amount of new material" for the album and guitarist Lars Frederiksen mentioned that it would surface sometime in 2006.
On April 13, 2006, Rancid posted a large update to their MySpace page and mentioned that the album would be released in The Spring of 2007. For sometime later, it was announced that The Release date had been changed to summer/fall 2007, despite frontman Tim Armstrong's solo tour schedule, supporting his first album A Poet's Life.
On June 12, 2007, drummer Branden Steineckert posted on his MySpace blog stating that members of Rancid are expected to get back together in the fall to begin writing the album, then resume recording it in January 2008.
It is currently unknown whether the album will feature any tracks that were recorded before Brett Reed's departure.
It was announced in the HellCat Records newsletter, that Rancid are writing and rehearsing in preparation for recording in January.
