Ragam(Culfest)
RAGAM, is the cultural fest of National Institute of Technology Calicut. Held during February, it is the biggest of its kind in Kerala and one of the best culfests in South India. Ragam was started in the memory of Late Rajan who went missing during the Emergency Period in 1975. He was taken in for questioning by the police and was never found again. Thus, Ragam is a symbol; a symbol of students' solidarity in the face of calamity.
The festival takes place over four days, wherein a variety of Literary and Cultural activities take place. The major crowd pullers are the Pro-shows which are held in the Open-Air-Theatre(OAT). Bands like Motherjane, Parikrama, Euphoria, Silk-route have performed during Ragam.Artistes like M. G. Sreekumar ,Shaan and Balabhaskar have also performed at Ragam
Every Ragam builds up on a theme. The theme decides every aspect of Ragam, everything from the color painted on the wall to the events held.
Ragam means tunes in karnatic music. which originated in south india. there are 70 original tunes or mela kartha ragams. which is a combination of sa ri ga ma pa da ni sa. similar to do re me fa so la to do.the combinations of this runs in to more than hundred thousand as it is purely mathematical.
