Rafe Heydel-Mankoo

Rafal Heydel-Mankoo (born 1 June 1976) is a British-Canadian Author, broadcaster and historian. He specialises on British institutions, the Monarchy and the Commonwealth. He currently serves as a Senior Fellow at The New Culture Forum and is a frequent commentator on major royal and constitutional events for international media outlets including the BBC, Sky News, and GB News.

Early life and education

Rafal Heydel-Mankoo was born in London and relocated to Canada for his education. He is the son of Tony Kulwant-Mankoo and Polish bornthe late Baroness Maria Heydel. His father was born in Kenya to Indian parents whereas his mother was from Poland. Through his maternal lineage, he is the grandson of H.S.H. Princess Karolina Jablonowski.

When he was 13, he joined the International Churchill Society.

He attended the University of Ottawa, where he graduated magna [...] laude with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). He subsequently earned a Master of Arts in History from the University of Toronto. Whilst at university, Heydel-Mankoo became chairman of the Ottawa branch of the Monarchist League of Canada and a trustee of the Canadian Royal Heritage Trust.

Research and policy

As a historian, Heydel-Mankoo specialises in the study of orders of knighthood and merit. He served as the co-editor of the two-volume definitive reference work, Burke's World Orders of Knighthood and Merit (2006).

His policy work includes serving as a Research Associate at the think tank ResPublica. He has also provided evidence to Parliamentary Select Committees on matters regarding constitutional reform and the honours system.
