Radio Glamorgan
Radio Glamorgan [Registered Charity Number 504534] is a Hospital Radio Station based in the University Hospital of Wales In Cardiff broadcasting on Patientline Channel 1 supported by the Rotary Clubs of Cardiff.
The Station provides entertainment for the Staff, Visitors and most importantly the Patients of the University Hospital of Wales, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
History of Radio Glamorgan
1967 - 1999
Vince Saville, Jimmy Saville's Brother, founded Radio Glamorgan in 1967. The Radio station was based at Cardiff Royal Infirmary before relocating to the basement of the University Hospital of Wales in 1974.
1999 - 2006
In 1999, Radio Glamorgan relocated to a new studio situated opposite the X-Ray department, a 5-minute walk from the Main Concourse of the Hospital.
2007 - ?
2007 marks Radio Glamorgan’s 40th Anniversary & to celebrate a series of events have been organised to celebrate.
Over 3 Days [30th March - 1st April] a 40 hour broadcast took place. The main aim was to Raise money for the Station. The Event attracted large press activity from the South Wales Echo.
On August 18th 2007, Radio Glamorgan hosted a Balloon Race at Mermaid Quay In Cardiff Bay.
On November 16th 2007, Radio Glamorgan hosted its 2nd inaguaral Awards Evening which also launched the brand new website.
New Website Launch
2nd year students at UWIC were briefed to design a website for a real client, That client being Radio Glamorgan.
There were many excellent prototypes presented but after discussion, The RG Committee chose the website designed by student Amy Edwards which was officially launched on November 16th 2007.
Awards Evenings
For the past 2 years Radio Glamorgan has hosted its own Awards Evening to recognise work and effort done by Radio Glamorgan Presenters over the Year.
In 2006, the Awards were held at UWIC Llandaff, Western Avenue, Cardiff.

When there are no Live Shows on Radio Glamorgan, a continuous music jukebox provides un-interrupted entertainment for patients listening.

Over the years, Radio Glamorgan has depended on Fundraising to Maintain the Equipment that helps the Station Broadcast Across the UHW. It is also assisted by local businesses and organisations.
Coffee Mania & Crema are Just 2 local companies that have supported Radio Glamorgan and most recently the Rotary Clubs of Cardiff have lended their support to keep Radio Glamorgan Thriving.
