Radio G'day
Radio G'day was a pirate radio station broadcasting out of Australia in the 1990s on shortwave.
The chief operator of the Station went by the name of 'Claude Crow', a character from Shirl's Neighbourhood, an Australian children's TV series from a few years earlier.
Its first broadcast was on Good Friday April 17th 1992 on a frequency of 11400.2 kHz with a power of 20 Watts. The programme consisted of Australian hits from the 60s & 70s, and a HAP radio series programme which was presented by Jonathan Marks on Shortwave pirates (which was produced back in the late 70s)
Other Good Friday broadcasts to go out on 11400.2 kHz were at 1100-1300 UTC and 1900-2100 UTC. Three days later on Easter Monday, April 20th 1992 the 4th transmission went out on 11400.2 kHz between 0800-0942 UTC before being abandoned due to mud/slush and heavy rain.
From these broadcasts, reports came in from Massachusetts USA, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. All up 40 letters were received.
The next series of broadcasts took place of the Queens Birthday long weekend. 7/8 June 1992 . On this occasion a 'V beam' antenna aimed toward the East coast of the USA was used. Reports came in from USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Australia and New South Wales. The frequency used for these broadcasts was 11400.2 kHz again.
As a result of this series of broadcasts an article on Radio G'day appeared in the June 16 1992 EDition of The Australian Newspaper.
The third series of broadcasts took place on the 16/17/18th of July 1992. The transmitter site was in The Coorong in South Australia. Reports were received from California, Singapore and New Zealand for the broadcasts which were on 11400.2 kHz again.
In the September/October Edition of 'CB Action' there was a 2 page article on Radio G'day and pirate radio stations in general.
The fourth series of broadcasts was on New Years Eve 1992 from near Port Pirie in South Australia. In a marathon 14 hour series of broadcasts, programs from Southern Music Radio (New Zealand), Radio Waves International (France), Weekend Music Radio, Scotland were relayed as well as Radio G'day live and pre-recorded shows. Frequencies user were 9150 kHz 7520 kHz, and 11500 kHz. Reports were received from Australia and New Zealand.
Over Easter 1993 Radio G'day broadcast on 11400.2 kHz, 11412 kHz, 15040 kHz.
