The band was initially formed by neighborhood friends in Oakland, California and after several years of performing in the San Francisco Bay Area, the band landed a recording contract with Quincy Jones' QWEST records.

In 1984, Radiance signed to QWEST Records, and released the LP "Pick 'n Choose" in 1985 which yielded the hit single "All Night" wich scored in the Billboard black singles top 100 chart (#81) and the maxi-single "All Night/Where Da Freaks At?" which peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music / Maxi-Singles chart. Tensions from within the group built over the late 1980s, and the group's second album was recorded but never released. The band broke up in 1987.
