Radha Bhattacharji

Radha Bhattacharji is an Indian-born American film producer She was the Associate Producer for the CBS movie, The Seduction of Miss Leona She spent her early years in India, but moved to New York as a young girl to join her older brother who was already living there. Over time the rest of her family immigrated as well. She was educated in both India and the U.S. Her interest in the entertainment industry resulted in her making several trips to India where she knew such directors as Mrinal Sen and Satyajit Ray – both of whom were instrumental in teaching her the basics of filmmaking.

Experience

Bhattacharji moved to Los Angeles; and in 1978 began her career as assistant and jack-of-all-trades to the legendary producer Edgar J. Scherick; and acquired her first credit on the small screen as Associate Producer for the CBS movie, The Seduction of Miss Leona. The subsequent years saw her moving on and up – one of the very first people of color to become an executive in established production companies. She gained extensive experience working as a development and senior production executive/producer for several production companies such as The Samuel Goldwyn Company, Guber-Peters Entertainment Company and Quincy Jones Entertainment, as well as a major studio – in Los Angeles and New York. She has worked closely with noted directors, screenwriters, authors and actors, including Tom Wolfe, Alvin Sargent, Oliver Stone, Ben Affleck, Francis Ford Coppola and Norman Mailer, to name a few. Bhattacharji is especially adept at acquiring, developing and producing films; and has been closely involved as production executive/producer in such films as Manhunter and Rainman, among others. Additionally, she has acquired foreign films for North American distribution for The Samuel Goldwyn Company; and recommended domestically-made films for acquisition and distribution purposes. Her work in almost every aspect of development and production has equipped her to be a creative producer who is also capable of overseeing physical production.

In the late 90’s Bhattacharji fulfilled her goal to serve in the public sector. She took time out from the motion picture industry to work as a policy analyst and speechwriter to Dr. Nafis Sadik, the Under-Secretary General/Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund in New York. While there, she honed her writing skills by penning speeches, statements, papers, book forewords and chapters, not only for the head of the agency but also for international dignitaries, including the Dutch Ambassador to NATO and the then First Lady Hillary Clinton – at their request. After several years at the UN, Bhattacharji returned to the entertainment business as an independent producer acquiring, developing, packaging and getting financing for projects for global distribution, working with both Indian and American talent.

She currently divides her time between India and the U.S.
