Rabbit Man

Rabbit Man is an urban legend existing in the region of East Tennessee. There are many different variations of the myth, but the most common one would be involving Sherwin. It is calimed to be a half rabbit, half man type creature, roaming primarily areas of Unicoi, Tennessee.

The idea of Rabbit Man was created by a man by the name of George Sherwin, in the late 1930s. It is said he owned a log cabin near the region of Limestone Cove, Tennessee just near a privately owned beauty salon.

Origin

The myth dates all the way back to the early 1900s. Several locals recall hearing the legend, quiet some time before Mary (elephant) was hung back in 1916. However, a Tennessee paranormal investigation company gained access to public records showing a series of deaths in Unicoi, around the time of Sherwin's death. The facts show disappearances in Unicoi, and several sightings of a 'giant black rabbit'.

The legend

The legend of Rabbit Man tells a story of several college students messing around late on Halloween night, 1935. They were having a party, and they were quite drunk. Finding themselves in the woods, they stumbled upon George Sherwin's home, which was an old shack, or cabin. George, who was in his late 50s, had a rather interest in rabbits of multiple nature. One of the teen boys in the group, started calling him names. 'Rabbit Man' was one name he called him. The boy threw his beer bottle at one of the cages, the bottle smashed and the flying shards of glass killed the rabbit. This upset George, who opened his door to confront The Teens. The legend says he got angry, and stabbed the teens with a railroad spike, [...] all of them except Donny Harrington.

Donny ran away from the [...] site, and told the local police department. They responded to the dispatch, trespassing on Sherwin's property. They only found dead rabbits, and a water well. When one of the deputies looked into the well, he saw more rabbits and the remains of the college kids.

Since these accidents, there have been several sightings and reports of Rabbit Man. Nothing specific, there is a local paranormal team investigating the legend, to identify if this is a real supernatural entity.
