Queen Geek Social Club
Queen Geek Social Club, the title of the first book in a series by Laura Preble (published by Penguin/Berkley Jam). It's also a fictional club at the fictional Green Pines High School that appears in the novel of the same name. The club involves high school girls who seek out others of their kind, those rare creatures who like sci-fi, comics, computers, and pranks. The main character, Shelby Chapelle, lives with her mad scientist father in a Southern California town; at the start of the series, her mother has already been dead for a few years, and her father has created Euphoria, a robot-nanny who serves as Shelby's sidekick and confidante. Shelby meets Becca Gallagher, a freakishly tall girl with a dragon tattoo on her leg, and they become fast friends and form the Queen Geek Social Club. Some highlights from the first book include the Campaign for Calories (the girls decide to send Twinkies to super skinny super models), National Invisible Boy Day, and the take-over of the school dance.
The second book in the series,Queen Geeks in Love, debuts November 6, 2007. Prom Queen Geeks, the third book, will be released in 2008.
