The Public-Private Alliance Foundation began with a concept developed at the United Nations by ambassadors from Madagascar, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, who shared the belief that companies, governments, and nonprofits working together could create meaningful change in vulnerable communities. The initiative was supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which created the UN Public-Private Alliance for Rural Development. This later evolved into the U.S.-based nonprofit organization.
