Prepare to meet your maker

Prepare to Meet Your Maker is the title of a surrealist MusicAL mystery play in six episodes by Peter Dizozza inspired by resurrection themes including those associated with Isis and Osiris. It originated as a series of episodes in 1996 in the East Village of New York City at SideWalk Bar Restaurant, and was directed, staged and choreographed by Tyr Throne and Lisa Dery at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, The Thonre Dance Theater, Baby Jupiter, the basement of the Gustavus Adolphus Church in Gramercy Park (with Charles Herold in the lead) and at the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center. It combines elements of the Spanish Mystery Plays of Calderon with resurrection mythology found in the legend of Isis and Osiris, and in various incarnations of mediterranean necrophilia comic books.

The basic premise in the script is that after an encounter with a baptist, the corpse of Salome is briefly resurrected through a form of icon adoration; and, bluntly stated, by making love to her corpse, a necrophiliac gravedigger temporarily loses his hunched back and stands tall beside her. After escaping a pearly gated community called the ordered world, they (Quasimodo and Cementeria) make a sea voyage from Gibralter to Alexandria to accept jobs as crypt keepers in a temple of Isis and Osiris.

Its 12 songs include Cementeria, The Mountain Casino, Meet Your Makers, 2 Lovers on 2morrow's Road, Hang My Head, Put Me Away, The Cage is Chilly, Strong for the Man and Wish a Word. The soundtrack album, produced by Alex Abrash and David Baker, features Tony Hightower and Meghan Burns.
