Positive Infinity

Positive Infinity are an alternative, metal, punk, rock band from Miami, Florida. While they are a full featured studio band, Positive Infinity are GeneRally considered to be the solo project of Living Corban's former vocalist and guitarist, Jonathan Roberts. Positive Infinity was originally going to be a performing band - one that would play live shows - but soon it became simply a studio band, cranking out tunes for CD listening pleasure only. Jonathan released some early tracks under the band title "Positive Infinity" - These include Fractal Notes and Shoe Throats and How Not to Die in Less Than 24 Hours, but he assembled a more permanent band for The Release of Dreams Walk the Waking World EP, Scapegoat (Lament No More), and other future albums.

History

The original drive for creating Positive Infinity was Jonathan Roberts's leaving the band “Living Corban”, when they broke up. However, Jonathan recorded and produced two CDs (Fractal Notes and Shoe Throats and How Not to Die in Less Than 24 Hours) before the band officially split. These two CDs were produced under the band name “Positive Infinity” and included a smaller group of artists (Jonathan Roberts, Lee Arnone, and David Ayers) creating tracks. Originally the first CD that was produced was planned to be released under the name Scapegoat, but Jonathan decided not to include the track "Scapegoat" in the first or second CD release. Instead he later revised it in late 2005 and early 2006. Nonetheless, these initial CDs did not sell well on line and production was discontinued in early 2006.

For a while after How Not to Die in Less Than 24 Hours stopped being produced, Positive Infinity seemed to be a lost cause. It wasn't long before the original members split. However, Jonathan Roberts didn’t give up his idea and acquired new members to revive Positive Infinity. Emilio Agudo (a guitarist from the band Noble Savage), Brian Betancourt (a flamenco and Latin guitar player), and David Roberts (Jonathan Roberts’s brother, a piano player) joined Positive Infinity. Originally they created music for an animated adaptation of “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” – a project Jonathan was working on for his (and his brother’s) multimedia company JD Productions (The project was a massive collaboration of many talented artists and animators as well).

Then Living Corban broke up in March of 2006. Jonathan then decided to take the music from “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” and other tracks that had been recorded by “JD Production’s Studio Band” (a.k.a. Positive Infinity) and compile them into a CD; hence Color Me Quixotic – EP was born. However, this project never made it to the mainstream and was revamped. It will soon be released to iTunes and Rhapsody as Dreams Walk the Waking World EP (Some time in September 2007). As of now the band is working on Scapegoat (Lament No More), which will be a collection of previously not released and previously released (and enhanced) songs from Positive Infinity, in association with former members of Digitalvision: Harvey Summers, Jah Wobble, and David Ayers (who collaborated with Positive Infinity initially). Its release date is uncertain.

Style

Positive Infinity are mostly considered just a rock band, but this is not the extent of their MusicAL outcroppings. Their songs include deep meanings and symbolism that may not be readily understood. In addition, their songs tend to make reference to often obscure or old literary works, but this stems mostly from their Christian influences. Moreover, Positive Infinity tend to put emphasis on music, which is why they have at least three musical tracks (devoid of lyrics) on each of their CDs.

Their first CD featured musical tracks with Middle Eastern and European influences, fused with electronic, emo, and hardcore music. Their second release hovered mostly around metal and metalcore musical tracks – there were no vocals in the original release of How Not to Die in Less Than 24 Hours, but the later additions, (which included vocals), were along the same lines in style. Their EP, Color Me Quixotic, was more of hodgepodge. Strangely, it included punk covers of Gordon Lightfoot’s music, and it included a few plain punk tracks as well as some peculiar techno-hardcore metal combinations. The CD was in all respects a clear-cut mishmash of all that is rock. This seems to be the case also for the upcoming Dreams Walk the Waking World EP and Scapegoat (Lament No More), since they will include tracks from the former Color Me Quixotic – EP and new tracks as well.
