Popular Alliance (UK)

The Popular Alliance is a political party in the United Kingdom. It was formed in March 2006 by former members of Veritas.

They campaign on a broadly populist agenda, believing that voters should be given a viable alternative to the three mainstream parties (Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats), particularly on issues such as Britain's membership of the European Union, immigration and crime. They propose to scrap the Human Rights Act and vow to cut mass immigration drastically and impose strict quotas; a policy they say is necessary to stop the electorate drifting towards supporting extremist parties like the British National Party (BNP). Their agenda espouses action on major UK political issues like the National Health Service, crime, education and immigration and asylum. The party believes there should be a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union and promotes devolved government and the ability of people to trigger referendums on local or national issues if 5% of people petition for one, as they do in Switzerland.
