The Polynesian Paradise Dancers (PPD) is a professional Polynesian dance company dedicated to the preservation of Polynesian performing arts. Specializing in modern and traditional dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa and New Zealand, PPD aims to share the aloha spirit with the world and keep the Polynesian culture flourishing in the United States and abroad.
History
The Polynesian Paradise Dancers was established in 1993 by Akemi Welsh out of her home in Downey, California. Since the, the company has steadily grown to be a successful international touring company. PPD has performed at numerous high-profile events, including movie premieres, charity events, television commercials and print advertisements. Their Polynesian revue showcases vibrant and authentic costumes, a beautiful cast of talented dancers and musicians, energetic choreography and live drumming. Their show promises to be an authentic Polynesian experience for audiences of all ages.
School and Training
The Polynesian Paradise Dancers rehearse out of the Academy of Polynesian Performing Arts, based out of Santa Fe Springs, CA. The studio was opened by PPD Director, Akemi Welsh. The academy offers classes on dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa and New Zealand, for students of all ages. 1
