Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (Mt. Vernon, Illinois)

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon, IL is a Southern Baptist Church (Pleasant Hill Baptist Church) in Mt. Vernon, IL, that is celebrating its 100 year anniverary in 2011 (founded in 1851). Originally called Lime Stone Baptist Church, the church (PHBC) has switched sites since the founding. It holds historical value as being one of the oldest Baptist churches in Southern Illinois.

The original site is now a home. The new site's original building has been modified three times, and two new wing have been added. It now consists of a worship center (original), educational wing, and Family Life Center (which holds a gymnasium). They also own a cemetery (and surrounding wood), pastoral home (w/ two acre yard and surrounding wood), two acres of woods across Illinois Highway 37 (donated), and shares in an oil well (donated).

Currently, the church emplooys the following: Jack Lucas, Senior Pastor; Jason Webb, Associate Pastor of Youth and Families; Mary Sanders, Director of Music Ministries (part time); Amy McKinney, Director of Preschool and Children's Ministry (volunteer); Stephanie Alvis, Ministry Assistant; Danny Mulch, Custodian; Sharon Karol, Assistant Ministry Assistant (summers and primary substitute); Erik Field, Assistant Custodian (substitute); and Roberta Davidson, Assistant to the Assistant Ministry Assistant (secondary substitute).

PHBC is associated with Salem South Baptist Association (SSBA), Illinois Baptist State Association (IBSA), and Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Representatives to these include Deloris Mount, Mission Board Representative (SSBA); Jack Lucas, Senior Pastor (all, especially IBSA and SBC); and many others selected annually.

PHBC holds a Sunday School and traditional worship on Sunday mornings, studies and contemporary worship on Sunday nights, studies on Wednesday, and many other activities throughout the week.
