Plan B (musical)

Plan B is a one-act MusicAL comedy, with book and additional lyrics by Daniel Mitura and music and lyrics by Rebecca Greenstein. It tells the story of a young scientist named Johnny who is working to create the Perfect Woman, a robot named Isabel. Jack, his boss at the lab, makes fun of Johnny for his youthful idealism but secretly admires the robot, who is much easier to control than his daughter Julia, the foul-mouthed garbage woman at the lab who knows a thing or two AbOUT science. Julia helps Johnny build Isabel, secretly trying to win him over and prove to him that only a real woman can in fact be perfect.

The musical was first created in 2008 as part of a collaborative theatre workshop at Columbia University. Under the direction of Natalie Glick, it was presented during the second weekend of November 2008 as part of NOMADS' (New and Original Material Authored and Directed by Students) festival, Fourplay - an evening of 3 plays. The production featured Patrick Blute (Johnny), Peter Day (Jack), Naomi Schachner (Julia), and Emma Goidel (Isabel).

The production is scheduled to transfer off-off-Broadway to the Looking Glass Theatre in New York City, running for 12 performances from January 23 through February 7, 2009. The new cast includes Bryan Plofsky (Johnny), Jeff Julian (Jack), Haley Greenstein (Julia), and Gloria Makino (Isabel). Additionally, new creative/production team members include Dana Everitt as producer and Robbie Metzbower as choreographer. The show has also been updated, receiving two new songs.
