Pitchi.com
Pitchi.com is the world’s first video selling platform. Founded in 2014, the service allows users to record and publish sub-60 second videos where a seller pitches an item for sale to an audience of buyers.
History
Pitchi.com was launched to the Australian market on August 13, 2014 in a beta state. The concept was developed by a Melbourne team as a concept designed to integrate e-commerce with social networks and allow users to create and view engaging video content to sell or buy items.
Features
Sellers can upload video clips that are no longer than 60 seconds on to the site where they pitch an item for sale. The videos can range from being informative, funny, quirky or feature an actual demonstration of the item in action. Videos uploaded to Pitchi.com are organized and presented to buyers through thumbnail tiles which increase in size and prominence. An algorithm takes into account several key factors such as number of views, likes and interactions that a video receives to determine how much site real estate the Pitchi occupies, encouraging sellers to create engaging content. Users can also follow other users on the site, allowing popular Pitchi creators or sellers to become viral video stars due to how easy it is to share videos across social media networks. Currently, sellers are able to list their items on the site for free.
Categories
Items for sale on Pitchi are grouped into categories such as Fashion, Electronics, Toys & Games, Home & Living and Music. A robust search function allows viewers to search by category, item name or tags to facilitate content and item discovery.
Reception
Australian internet pop culture website Pages Digital described the site as “the least boring way to sell your stuff over the internet”. News.com.au compiled a list of 5 of the best videos on the site, heralding Pitchi.com as an eBay-meets-Vine trading platform aimed at millennials.
