Pioneer Resources
Pioneer Resources is an ASX listed (ASX code PIO) junior exploration company with a portfolio of strategically located gold, nickel and base metals projects in established mining and exploration regions in Western Australia.
Pioneer’s objective is to discover and develop high value mineral resources at its project areas, to maximise their value and in turn deliver value to shareholders. The Company also seeks to pursue appropriate value accretive joint venture and acquisition opportunities.
Pioneer has a large multi-commodity project portfolio which provides shareholders with exposure to the key commodities of nickel, gold, copper and zinc.
Its projects include the Fairwater Nickel and Gold Project in the Albany-Fraser Mineral Province, in south eastern WA, plus the Golden Ridge Nickel and Gold Project, the Acra Gold Project and the Juglah Dome Gold and Base Metals Project, all in the Eastern Goldfields of WA.
The Company listed on ASX in December 2003 as Pioneer Nickel. In July 2009, it formally changed its name to Pioneer Resources to reflect a broader commodity focus, not limited to its initial focus of nickel exploration.
In 2012, Pioneer sold its Western Mt Jewell Gold Project to KalNorth Gold Mines Ltd (ASX: KGM) (formerly Carrick Gold Ltd) for a cash consideration of A$8 million, to be paid in a number of instalments. As at 30 September 2014, A$6.9 million in instalments had been received by Pioneer, and a final instalment of A$1.1m is due to in March 2015.
Pioneer has a highly experienced and well regarded board and management team, with a mix of relevant technical and corporate skill sets.
Projects Overview
Pioneer’s priority projects include; Fairwater Nickel-Gold Project, Fraser Ranges (75% PIO). The Fairwater Project is located in the Albany-Fraser minerals province in south east Western Australia, in the same region as Sirius Resources’ (ASX: SIR) major Nova and Bollinger nickel discoveries.
Golden Ridge Nickel Project, Eastern Goldfields (100% PIO). The Golden Ridge Project is located 30 km south east of Kalgoorlie and covers an area of 163km2. The project includes the Blair Nickel Mine. Pioneer acquired the project with the intent of providing shareholders with exposure to an anticipated rise in the nickel price.
Juglah Dome Gold and Base Metals Project, Eastern Goldfields (100% PIO). The Juglah Dome Project covers an area of 73 km2, 57 km south east of Kalgoorlie. In 2014, Pioneer discovered a new copper-gold and lead-zinc anomaly, called the Dingo Dam Prospect, which will be a priority for further exploration.
Acra Gold Project, Eastern Goldfields (100% PIO). The Acra Project is located 60 km north east of Kalgoorlie and covers an area of 617 km2. Drilling by Pioneer has intersected high grade gold mineralisation and ongoing drilling at the project is a priority for the Company.
