Philip Stewart

Philip Stewart is a British writer and teacher, who retired in 2006 from a post at the University of Oxford, England. He decided at an early age that he did not want to choose between arts and sciences. As a young graduate in Arabic, he translated a novel by Naguib Mahfouz, published in 1981 as Children of Gebelawi, revised in 1997 as Children of Gebelaawi. He then took a second Oxford degree in Forestry and spent seven years working as a forester in Algeria before returning to Oxford to teach Economics to Biology students and Human Ecology to Human Sciences students. His special interest is in the way that belief systems affect the way that people interact with NATURAL systems. He is best known for being the designer of the Chemical Galaxy.
