Philip Montgomery Thompson III
Philip Montgomery Thompson III was born on April 29th 1943 in Salt Lake City Utah. Phil has spent his entire business career working for Industrial Supply Co. of Salt Lake City, Utah. Phil served as CEO of the Company from 1979 to 2008. He is currently Chairman of the Company he has worked for 48 years.
Industrial Supply Co. is a family business founded in 1916. The Company is a privately owned distributor in the Rocky Mountain region of tools and supplies for the mining, construction, energy, manufacturing, public utilities, and the aerospace and defense segments.
Phil served as Chairman of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (2006-2008) edcUtah is a public private partnership focused on creating jobs and investment in Utah. Phil also works with the Governors Office on Economic Development as a mentor for the Mentor-Protégé program to help minority owned businesses become 8-A certified.
Phil was a founding member and Chairman of the Young Presidents Organization, Utah. Phil currently serves on the Board of Wells Fargo Bank, YMCA, and the Shea Family Foundation. He is also a member of the World Presidents Organization.
In March of 2000 he was appointed to serve as Venue Chairman for Deer Valley for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. He also served for eight years as a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Bobsled Federation.
Phil was twice nominated as the Entrepreneur of the Year in Utah. Industrial Supply was also honor by its trade magazine, Industrial distribution, as one of the four outstanding businesses of the 20th Century.
Phil is the founder of the Watchman Forum, an early warning intelligence service monitoring events of the Middle East. Phil also speaks to and supports men suffering from depression.
Phil has served as Chaplain for the University of Utah Football team since 2002. Phil has lived in Park City, Utah for 30 years where he is active in skiing, his church and community.
