Petrol Solutions

Petrol Solutions S.R.L. (trading as PetroSol) is a Romanian information technology company that develops software and integrated hardware solutions for the downstream oil and gas industry, with a focus on fuel retail networks. Headquartered in Bucharest, the company's platforms are deployed by major fuel operators and independent stations, collectively serving more than 50% of Romania’s fuel retail market.

PetroSol is a Technical Associate of the International Forecourt Standards Forum (IFSF) and holds ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certifications.

History

Petrol Solutions was founded on 13 May 2014 in Bucharest by Cristian Bălulescu.

In 2018, the company partnered with GLYKON and Danubius Exim Romania (the exclusive importer of Bulgarian fiscal equipment manufacturer Datecs) to support independent fuel retailers in complying with newly introduced Romanian tax regulations requiring digital-journal fiscal devices to connect to ANAF servers.

Petrol Solutions' primary technology and hardware deployment partner is Danubius Exim Romania. Additional integration and hardware partners listed by the company include Gilbarco Veeder-Root, TSG, LevTech, Microsoft, Printec, SWE, and ARIGO-SW.

In August 2020, the PetroSol POS system was certified by the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest), becoming the first Romanian-developed fuel retail solution certified by ANAF. By the end of 2020, the software was deployed across more than 1,000 sites in Romania and entered a pilot deployment stage in the Republic of Moldova.

In February 2021, Petrol Solutions and Danubius Exim launched Romania's first certified fiscal self-service payment solution for unattended fuel stations, utilizing the Datecs SK1-21 kiosk fiscal printer.

Between 2020 and 2024, the company’s reported annual revenue increased from 1.47 million RON to 7.71 million RON. In August 2024, PetroSol provided the technical integration for OSCAR Downstream’s mobile payment application, bridging the Eurowag payment system with OSCAR's retail fiscal infrastructure.

By 2026, Petrol Solutions completed a major system rollout across 500 fuel stations operated by the Rompetrol Downstream network in Romania, migrating more than 20% of the country's total fuel station infrastructure to its software platforms within a three-month period.

Products and services

The company develops modular, integrated software-hardware configurations built on Microsoft .NET, WPF, C++, SQL Server, Azure Cloud, and Linux IoT ecosystems. Its main core platforms include:

• PetroSol POS: A point-of-sale system tailored for fuel station point-of-sale operations and convenience store retail management.

• PetroSol FCC (Forecourt Controller): Manages automated communication protocol translations between IT platforms and fuel dispensers using IFSF standards.
• PetroSol BOS/HOS: Back-Office and Head-Office automation software designed for inventory control, automated replenishment, and multi-site network administration.

• PetroSol OPT (Outdoor Payment Terminal): A hardware-integrated self-service automation kiosk for unmanned fueling operations, equipped with payment and banknote processing units.
• PetroSol CMS (Card Management System): A fleet card financial transaction processing platform working under ISO 8583 architecture, integrated with global fueling and logistics networks like DKV, UTA, and AS24.
