Petko Draganov

Petko Draganov is Bulgarian diplomat. He is appointed by the UNCTAD secretary general as deputy secretary general of UNCTAD from May 2009.

Prior his nomination, P. Draganov held various functions such as permanent representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva. He also held ambassadorial positions in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. He was deputy foreign minister and president of the National Commission on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO with the Government of Bulgaria.

P. Draganov has an extensive knowledge of UNCTAD with strong diplomatic and negotiating skills. He has a long and distinguished career in multilateral diplomacy, including thorough familiarity with the work of UNCTAD. He played a tremendous role in the work of UNCTAD while president of UNCTAD’s Trade and Development Board, in which capacity he helped to steer the UNCTAD XII negotiations to a successful conclusion.

Petko Draganov is an educated in 1983 from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and holds a degree of master of arts in international law. He was born on January 25, 1958, and is married with 2 children.
