Persija Jakarta–Persikad Depok rivalry

The Persija Jakarta–Persikad Depok rivalry is an Indonesian football rivalry between two clubs from the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area, namely Persija Jakarta which is based in DKI Jakarta and Persikad Depok (previously used the Persikad Purwakarta name license) which is based in Depok, West Java.

This rivalry has a strong geographical background because the city of Depok borders directly with South Jakarta. In addition, the fan bases of both clubs often overlap in the border region, making it one of the most interesting regional derbies in the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area.

History

Persija Jakarta, founded in 1928, is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Indonesia with a long history in the top flight of Indonesian football league system. On the other hand, Persikad Depok was formed in 1990 as a football club representing Depok Administrative City which at that time was still part of Bogor Regency.

Based on archived statistical records from the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF), the two teams have rarely met in regular league competition due to the striking differences in the competition's caste throughout history. Persija Jakarta consistently remains in the top tier of national football (Premier Division/Indonesian Super League/Liga 1/Super League), while Persikad Depok spends more time competing in the First Division, Premier Division (second tier), Liga 3, Liga 4, until the latest competing in the Championship starting 2025–26 season (through the acquisition of the Sumut United license).

The first and only official competitive meeting in a national tournament recorded by the RSSSF occurred at the 2005 Copa Indonesia (now the Piala Indonesia). Since then, a high-tension atmosphere has often colored the meetings between the two teams, which were then continued through a series of regular pre-season trial matches held in East Jakarta and Depok.

Stadiums

Persija Jakarta has historically used several stadiums in Jakarta as their home ground, including Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi as the closest home options. Meanwhile, Persikad Depok is based at Merpati Stadium which is located in Pancoran Mas, Depok. However, in some special matches, they also use other field facilities in Depok such as the Mako Brimob Kelapa Dua Field.

Supporters

The competitive relationship between Persija and Persikad does not only occur on the football field, but also reflected in the dynamics of supporter groups in the border areas of Depok and Jakarta. The city of Depok is known to have a very massive mass base of Persija supporters (), but at the same time, local supporter groups supporting Persikad Depok (such as Ultras Persikad or Depok Mania) remain loyal to their proud club nicknamed Serigala Margonda. This creates a unique atmosphere of prestige among football fans in Depok every time the two teams compete.
