The Football Association of Perak enters a team in Malaysian football competitions to represent the state of Perak. The team currently plays in the President's Cup League.

Background

Perak FA was formed in 1921 to participate in the Malaya Cup (later HMS Cup, known today as the Malaysia Cup). They were also one of the founding members of the Malayan Football Association (the predecessor of the modern Football Association of Malaysia).

They are the third most successful team in the Malaysia Cup competition with 7 wins and 11 second-place finishes. They won the last of their 7 titles in 2000 and were runners-up in the 2007 EDition. In 2003, Perak became the first team in 13 years to achieve league titles in Malaysian football.

Perak has been the most consistent team in Malaysian football, being the only team to have finished in the top four of the Malaysian SUPER League every year since its inception. Besides that, Perak is the only team in Malaysia that has never been demoted to a lower division since the professional league was introduced in 1989. Perak calls the 42,500-seat Perak Stadium as its homeground, although it has played some matches at the 15,000-seat Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) Stadium in Lumut whenever the Perak Stadium has not been not available.

Perak FA's nickname is Seladang (which means "Wild Ox"). A favourite tagline of its supporters is Kejor Yeop Kejor, which roughly translates to "chase it". The tagline was adopted by the team after the state government used it as their tagline for the 1996 Sukma Games. In 2007, Perak came up with a new tagline called Skor Yob Skor ("Goal and Goal"), based on their mission to score in each match to win.

Perak enjoys a large support base. Their league attendance average for the year 2006 stood at around 40,000.

FA officials

The top two positions in the Football Association are currently vacant following a government directive requiring high-ranking government officials to refrain from holding positions within sports bodies.

Perak has also not had a manager since the resignation of Datuk Jamal Nasir Rasdi in 2006. Englishman Steve Darby has been carrying out the duties of both manager and coach since then. His present contract runs out in October 2008

Perak's football chant

Perak football fans' version of When The Saints Go Marching In.

Ipoh Mali, Ipoh Mali,
Talak Sombong,
Ipoh Mali Talak Sombong,
Ipoh Mali Talak Sombong.
There are rumours that this song actually became famous when Perak won their first Malaysian FA Cup in 1990. Perak is the only team in Malaysian football still singing their own football song in order to keep players motivated.
