Pedro de Leon

Pedro de Leon is an artist, who was born as Pedro Rodríguez in 1951 in La Unión, Chile. Since his early years in Valdivia, Pedro de Leon had a passion for practical painting, taking influence from the aquarellist master, Ricardo Andwandter, who lives and works at Valdivia.

In the 1970s, Pedro De Leon became a student at the National Grande Ecole of Arts at Santiago of Chile, conducted by the Adolfo Guerrero’s painter. During the seventies, Chile experienced an important period of social and political change, which Pedro De Leon interested like a young artist. He collaborated with the Brigade of Mural’s promotion, where he met, for the first time, the great Chilean painter Roberto Matta.

Pedro de Leon arrived at Paris in 1976’s with the intention of continuing his painting studies. Then, in 1977’s, he entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts (ENSBA), where he is particularly drew by the Mural Expression’s Studio supervised by the painter Jean Bertholle, the Fresco Mural’s Studio supervised by Mr. Lenormand and the Painting Technical’s Studio supervised by the excellent teacher Mr. Nicolas Wacker.

In 1982’s, Pedro De Leon obtained the superior degree of Fine-Arts conducted by the painter Mr. Pierre Matthey. Pedro De Leon made several journeys in Italy where he worked and studied, went often to Florence, Arezzo et Borgo San Sepolcro, captivated by the works of the painter Piero della Francesca.
