Paul Thurrott
Paul Thurrott (born October 29, 1966) is a technology reporter, published author, Podcaster, and news editor for Windows IT Pro Magazine. He regularly writes reviews for beta and completed Microsoft products, such as Windows Vista and Office 2007. Thurrott has also reviewed Apple products, such as the iPod, Mac OS X, and other Mac related software. He is the host of Windows Weekly on TWiT.TV with Leo Laporte, a podcast attracting over 80,000 downloads for each episode.
Criticisms
Some critics charge that Thurrott writes from an emotional position and lacks technical knowledge in the subjects he writes AbOUT (for example, not understanding that Vista's metadata search uses third-party plug-ins for unknown file formats or claiming that Service Pack 2 for Windows XP brought more system-level changes than Mac OS X v10.4). Bloggers Ed Bott and Robert McLaws have chastised Thurrott for poor journalistic integrity. Thurrott was also criticized for a price comparison between a Mac Pro and Dell Precision workstation that had different specifications.
After Thurrott's article about poor standards compliance in Internet Explorer 7, blogger Ryan Hoffman commented:
Let’s get into standards now. Guess what, Paul? Your site, WinSuperSite.com currently has 124 validation errors, according to the W3C’s Markup Validation Service. Even worse, the page which contains your “Boycott IE” story currently has 207 validation errors.
