Patty Tyler
Patty Tyler (born Patricia Marie Soto Dumont on September 8, 1983) is an American R&B soul-singer/songwriter, producer, actress and television personality. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, she comes from a very diverse background. Her father Anthony, a contractor, is a Puerto- Rican/Haitian with French descent. Her mother Susan, a tenant supervisor was Colombian and Irish. Patty has always expressed that she was comfortable with her diverse background because she felt she was able to "relate to different cultures". Proud of her roots and background, she knew she wanted to conquer the world of music and performing arts at a very young age. She has two siblings. Monica, a local internet radio host and Vermex, also a singer and clothing designer.
Early life
Patty Tyler was born in Miami, Florida on Sept. 8th 1983. She began singing at age four and remembers how she became obsessed with music. Growing up, Patty remembers hearing old Motown records that her father would play around the house, usually around night time and Sunday mornings. Patty cites Marvin Gaye, Issac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker and Michael Jackson as major influences in regards to her love and affinity for music, stating that "they've molded me into the artist I am today." She recalls singing for her father one afternoon after hearing her mimic" Unchained melodies" of the 1990s feature film "Ghost". He then knew she had a special gift. From there on, forced by her father, Patty would perform at dinner parties and restaurants as a young girl. "My father would literally make me sing wherever the spotlight was and for just AbOUT anybody, it was pretty embarrassing."
Patty's career in music and entertainment began at the tender age of 9, when she chosen to play the lead role of Annie at her school play. After receiving a standing ovation from the audience and numerous recognition for her breakthrough performance, she then realized that being on stage was part of who she was and performing would be her life long dream.
Her mother and father separated early in Patty's life, and consequently was raised primarily by her mother. Growing up, she lived in what you would refer today as a lower class ambiance with a struggling mother who was supporting her 3 children on her own, but never did she allow this to taint her ambition. From early on, Patty was dedicated and driven, proclaiming singing and performing as her initial career aspirations. Her young energy and sound was a revelation that music would play a major role in her life.
She later began to perform in school talent shows and winning upwards 20 local competitions for her vocal abilities. She was known as the girl with "The Golden Voice" in her hometown in South Florida. She joined the drama program in junior high and became a thespian for the next 6 years. During high school, she began dabbling in the music once again. Winning the School's Talent show for 3 years in a row. She was known as "The singer" and was voted "Most likely to get a record deal". She then started auditioning around Miami and found herself recording with various local Miami artists which led to her first proposition for a record deal at 17 with Sony Music in 2000.
She graduated from Miami Coral Park High School in 2001 and solely focused on her singing career.
Career
Her lucky break came in 2004 when she auditioned for the hit MTV show "Makin da Band 3" founded by Sean "Diddy" Combs. Twenty thousand girls from four different states including New York, Miami, Chicago, and L.A. auditioned to get to the top 20, in hopes of making the all girl group band which later became Danity Kane. She was flown to New York City to audition for Diddy himself at the TRL (Total Request Live) Studio in Times Square and made the final top 20 cast in the competition which aired March 2005. She became a favorite on the show along with Aubrey and Andrea among fans and TV viewers over the world. But due to her mother's battle with breast cancer, she was later sent home because her mother didn't have much time to live. Unfortunately, her mother died a week later after her return home on December 4, 2004. Patty was then inspired to move to New York city, where she always told her mother she wanted to be and believed she had a chance to really make it and get to the next level in her career.
In 2010 She released her debut single "Next to me ft. Jaafar and shortly after, she did a feature with Hip hop artist Facethamusic on "My Favorite Song which made World Star hip hop and aired on MTV, MTV2, Fuse and BET.
