Patrick Macdonald-King
Patrick Macdonald-King (born April 22, 1971) is a Canadian-born businessman and entrepreneur. Macdonald-King is the founder of DAX LLC, the company that develops and provides the cloud based Software as a Service production workflow application also known as DAX (software program). The company is based in Culver City, California with an office in Toronto, Canada. Prime Focus Technologies (PFT), the technology subsidiary of Prime Focus (BSE code: 532748) acquired DAX in April 2014 and Patrick Macdonald-King is now the President, responsible for North America. Early life
The son of Penny Fawcett (LaGrave) and Keith King, Macdonald-King grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and graduated from Jasper Place Composite High School. He later moved to London, Ontario and attended the University of Western Ontario where he earned his BSC degree in Economics. He is currently married to Alessandra King, and lives with their two children in Los Angeles.
Company
The company’s product, DAX, is used by the television and motion picture industries for media production and digital asset management, and is covered by several patents and registered trademarks. Formerly known as Sample Digital, DAX LLC was awarded the 2013 StudioDaily Prime Award for “Ease of Use.”
In 2007, Macdonald-King assumed the role of CEO of Sample Digital Holdings when Sample Media Services, Digital Dailies, and his own company, DAX Solutions, merged operations. Macdonald-King led the roll up of the companies as well as a major round of funding from Hyperion Media Group. Prior to DAX, Macdonald-King worked in production, marketing and operations for companies such as Mamisi Digital Media, Au Bon Pain, BBDO and Ogilvy & Mather. While at BBDO and Ogilvy & Mather, he worked on such accounts as Dodge Ram, Chrysler Corporation and IBM eBusiness launch.
Macdonald-King has been spotlighted in articles in Variety, CIO Magazine, and the Los Angeles Times as an authority on digital asset management and mobile workflow solutions. He has been a featured speaker at media and entertainment conferences and delivered the keynote address at the 2013 NAB Cloud Computing Conference on Cloud Solutions for Content Creation.
