Path Dependency and the International Conferences on Afghanistan: From Bonn 2001 to Bonn 2011 is the first book by an Afghan author Ahmad Javeed Ahwar. The book is written in five chapters and has a comprehensive conclusion. The author summarizes the post 9/11 events in Afghanistan with a special emphasis on the number of international conferences on Afghanistan. The book is characterized as one of the few sources available AbOUT the international conferences on Afghanistan. It is notable in this book that the author has applied the theory of path dependency as a framework to analyze the problems and recommend solutions for them.
Composition and publication
Author of the book - Ahmad Javeed Ahwar during his studies with the OSCE Academy in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan proposed this topic as the subject of his MA dissertation in 2011. He completed his primary research on this book in Kyrgyzstan and developed it further while doing his internship with GCSP - the Geneva Center for Security Policy in May 2011. Dr. Graeme Herd - head of the International Security Program in GCSP supervised the thesis and helped the author with facilitating InterViews with experts in Geneva on Afghanistan and finding reliable resources for this purpose. After being accepted by the OSCE Academy in Kyrgyzstan as the final dissertation of the author, he later decided to publish this book by the financial support of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Afghanistan.
The book with some additions by the author and comments attached to the cover from the head of FES - Afghanistan, Mr. Frank Huntke got published in December 2011. The book is written in five chapters. It has a conclusion unit, bibliography and attached tables summarizing the highlights of the book. The book was distributed for free and was published for non-profit purposes educating young generation of Afghanistan and warning foreign researchers on Afghanistan to considering the historical backgrounds of problems in their future researches. The author for reaching its audience distributed the book widely and posted it online in different widely known academic websites. He has also attended many talk shows in Afghanistan to describe his research book for his Afghan readers.
Controversies
This book views critically the history of Afghanistan and opposes the Afghan government's narrative of corruption, national identity, Afghanistan constitution, power distribution, societal values and power politics. The author also criticizes foreign researchers for not deepening into the problems and recommending unreasonable personal driven conclusions that may negatively affect the life of millions in Afghanistan. At the end of this book, few different recommendations are proposed by the author for post 2014 Afghanistan.
